Food processing operations such as meat, poultry or seafood processing plants produce large amounts of organic wastes that are rich in nutrients. Currently, majority of these waste are discarded due to the lack of suitable technology to transform its value.

BARLEY SPENT GRAINS 


Barley or brewer's spent grains (BSG) are abundant in beverage manufacturing processes amounting to 12 million tons of brewers' spent grain generated worldwide


We have valorized wet spent grains into fragrant, nutritious, sterile and stable dried BSG. Food products made from BSG are gaining attention within the food production industry due to its high nutrition and protein quality as well as its potential to be incorporated in a wide variety of recipes, such as breads, noodles, biscuits and snacks with extended shelf lives.


NIP tests on the dried BSG have shown high levels of protein, making it a good ingredient in animal feed. The dried BSG have also proven to be excellent raw materials for bio-composite materials in the fabrication of sustainable and biodegradable products.

The SQ drying technology subjects Okara to high temperatures for a few minutes to purely remove the water contents while simultaneously retaining the innate flavour, nutrition and essence of the original raw material, producing high quality dried products fit for human consumption.

Okara forms a significant portion of the side streams from the soy product manufacturing plants and its dried powder is a highly sought-after nutritional protein enhancer which also adds texture to baked or savory meals.

Fruit pomace from canning and juicing manufacturing plants such as orange peels from orange juice production plants are rich in several nutrients such as fiber, vitamin C, provitamin A, folate, riboflavin, thiamine, vitamin B6, calcium and plant compounds like polyphenols. The powders obtained from the dried peels are superior health products.

A single tablespoon (6g) of orange peel provides 14% of the Daily Value (DV) of vitamin C, which is nearly 3 times more than the inner fruit. That same tablespoon will contain 4 times more fiber.

A huge portion of these vegetables are still rich in vitamins A, C, antioxidants, calcium, iron and potassium. 

The SQ drying technology quickly and efficiently dehydrates vegetables to retain their nutritional value and aroma. The dried products are free from cosmetic inconsistencies with up to 90% reduction in packing volume. These unwanted produce can now be upcycled and given a second lease of life.
